Having known Vanessa and Kenny for years, I was more than excited to photograph their beautiful wedding day. Although during their wedding planning they encountered a few hick ups, but of course who who doesn’t, they were able to find the perfect venue and let me tell you this Omni King Edward Hotel wedding did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in the crystal ballroom the space was filled with beautiful light pouring in from floor-to-ceiling windows. Combine that with the ornate moldings in the room and the golden chandeliers you get this victorian yet still modern feel to the space.
I mean we couldn’t have asked for a better day for this beautiful Omni King Edward Hotel wedding. With the sun out and warm breeze we took to the Distillery District for some photos. And it’s always a blast getting to photograph with friends since every minute of it seems like we’re just goofing off. So it wasn’t long before we realized the time and had to return to the hotel to officially tie the knot!
Now it wouldn’t have been a Vanessa and Kenny ceremony if it didn’t have some jokes, laughs, and bumps along the road because it was just so authentically them! I also wanted to point out that our groom is standing on the left side during the ceremony where traditionally it’s suppose to be the bride standing on the left.
So why did I bring this up? Because I love when couples stray from tradition and do things their own way, even if it’s something so small like this – that’s really what it’s about. Make the day about yourselves and not for anyone else or because of old tradition, which by the way the tradition of the groom standing on the right side came from back in the old days when the groom needed to leave his right hand free to grab his sword in the event he’d need to defend his bride from other suitors who would try to steal her away at the altar. Yep cue the eye rolls.
All in all I was so thankful to have the opportunity to document this day for Vanessa and Kenny. Your Omni King Edward Hotel wedding was perfect and I was so honoured to be a part of it. Thank you both for trusting me capture this special day for you two.
